The Bauhaus timepiece was envisioned to be elemental and yet, bold; an effortless blend of elegance with simplicity. It embraces the power of design with a thoughtful expression of urban minimalism. While extracting elements from the Miesian style such as clean lines and a minimal framework, the timepiece expands on the concept by defying symmetry and conformity with subtle elements. The little breaks in consistency creates a final model that exudes versatility and boldness. It is a respectful understanding of the past while fiercely defining the future.
The inspiration of this piece was from a Japanese painting called The Great Wave off Kanagawa, it also took the meaning from an ancient Chinese poem. The shape of the wave was the element from the painting, the designer used blue sapphires to represent the waves, however the concept of the moon was from the poem, the dangling yellow sapphire also gave the earring some movements. In Chinese culture, moon represents reunion and good memories. The designer would like to express the traditional Asian culture through the piece.
The designer receives inspiration from the shape of arch structures and rainbow. Two motifs – an arch shape and a drop shape, are combined to create a single 3 dimensional form. By combining minimal lines and forms and utilizing simple and common motifs, the result is a simple and elegant ring that is made bold and playful by providing space for energy and rhythm to flow. From different angles the shape of the ring changes – the drop shape is viewed from front angle, arch shape is viewed from side angle, and a cross is viewed from top angle. This provides stimulation for the wearer.
With a simple gesture, an action of touch conveys rich emotions. Through the Touch ring, the designer aims to convey this warm and formless feeling with cold and solid metal. 2 curves are joined to form a ring that suggests 2 people holding hands. The ring changes its aspect when its position is rotated on the finger and viewed from different angles. When the connected parts are positioned between your fingers, the ring appears either yellow or white. When the connected parts are positioned on the finger, you can enjoy both yellow and white color together.
